Be Prepared: Spring
Now that the polar vortex has passed, spring seems to be on the horizon! While you might be doing some spring cleaning, don’t forget to do some spring electrical maintenance as well. Here are some tips to assist you in the new season.
Inspect your outlets, light fixtures, and cords. This is a good habit to practice for any time of year. The relatively larger electrical load of winter makes it especially important to inspect cords, outlet, and appliances in the spring. Check for signs of damage or potential hazards and replace as necessary.
Avoid wet areas. April showers bring May flowers, but rain should never come in contact with electricity! Make sure that any kind of cords or electrical appliances remain dry.
Test out lawn equipment. Your electrical outdoor equipment has probably been sitting in your garage during the winter. Since it hasn’t been used in months, make sure to give it a test run in a safe environment before using it.
Hire an electrician. Some things should be left to the professionals for reasons of safety. Schedule a check-up to get a thorough inspection of your home.
