PSA: Who to Contact About Your Home’s Damaged Electrical Service

We’ve had quite a few thunderstorms this summer with high winds that have caused severe damage to homes and power lines. After seeing multiple cases of damaged electrical services, Master Electrician Bryan Butler wanted to share some advice about scenarios where calling your utility company and an electrician may be the quickest solution to getting your power back on.

How to Address Damage to Exterior Electrical Service

First things first: if you are experiencing an electrical emergency, call 911. If you have a question about a power outage in your area, contact your utility company. But if your home’s exterior electrical hookups look anything like the photos below, you should also call an electrician. This includes damaged electrical meters, disconnected/hanging wires, or electrical hookups that have been entirely knocked off your home. While utility companies can help put the electrical service back into place, you will need an electrician to complete the job and get your power back on. So, if your electrical service looks like the photo below, we highly suggest calling a trusted electrician first rather than waiting for the utility company to arrive.

If your electrical service looks like the photos below, give us a call.

For reference, a properly installed electrical service on the exterior of your house should look like this.
